Scrum Product Owner Certified (SPOC)

Course Length: 12 hours (2 days)
Scrum Product Owner Certified (SPOC™) is an intensive training course on one of the most critical roles defined by the world’s most popular Agile method: Scrum. The course provides an interactive hands-on learning experience through a mix of highly interactive facilitator-led discussions, group activities, games and product development simulation.
This course focuses on the perspective, responsibilities, tools and techniques employed by the Scrum Product Owner.

Learning Objectives:
  • To provide participants with an understanding of the Product Owner’s role throughout the life of a Scrum project.
  • To provide practical knowledge of Scrum from a Product Owner’s perspective, including roles, meetings and artefacts.
  • To prepare participants to be comfortable in taking on the role of Product Owner (‘the voice of the customer’) including managing common issues and roadblocks encountered in Scrum projects.
  • To give participants a working knowledge of the tools and techniques required to write effective requirements (User Stories), and to prioritize and maintain a healthy product backlog.
  • To prepare candidates with the necessary knowledge to take the online Scrum Product Owner Certification (SPOC™) exam.
Learning Outcomes and Facilitation
Successful completion of this course will enable participants to:
  • Participants will be familiar with the concepts, advantages and challenges of Scrum and the Product Owner role.
  • Participants will be adept in handling the business aspects of the Scrum method.
  • Participants will be equipped with the knowledge, tools and techniques needed to play the role of Product Owner (“Voice of the Customer”) in their organization.
Participants will be equipped with effective techniques to:
  • Write effective product vision statements;
  • Perform release planning;
  • Gather, prioritize and maintain requirements;
  • Write epics, user stories, acceptance criteria and personas;
  • Track and report progress;
  • Participants will gain an understanding of the roles and interactions with other Scrum core team and non-core team roles.
Trainers of this course will use a practical delivery approach to provide participants with a ‘hands-on’, multi-faceted and challenging learning experience. Understanding and recall techniques will be used to provide participants with a solid comprehension of Scrum. Courses are facilitated by our experienced and qualified SCRUMStudy Certified Trainers (SCT™). These can be held on-site or at our premises. All courses can be customized to suit your requirements.

There is much to do in this workshop! It is best that you take the time to complete the pre-work. We estimate that it should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete as it sets a baseline of working knowledge to allow the group to collectively dive right into the workshop activities. We will send materials out to you 1 week in advance of the workshop via the Hippo-Campus. Whilst not a formal prerequisite, it is recommended that you have undertaken the Scrum Master Certified (SMC™) course to better understand the concepts required for the Scrum Product Owner certification exam. If you are not familiar with SMC then your Scrum trainer will outline any additional topics you will need to revise prior to undertaking the SPOC exam.

The Scrum Product Owner Certified (SPOC™) Certification exam is a 3 hour online multiple-choice exam to be undertaken within 6 months after completing the 2-day training course. The exams are administered by SCRUMStudy and are taken at a time convenient to you. The cost of the exam is included in the course fee (2 free re-takes included).
